KU Leuven is an international community where innovative research forms the basis of all academic programs.
JOINTPROMISE project paves the way for high-volume, affordable production of entire biological joints, addressing a major socioeconomic challenge of the European ageing society.

Our Approach
Results
The goal
To showcase expertise in an integrated robotic platform for tissue engineering and developing artificial organoid implants using stem cells and 3D printing.

Animation type: 3D simple + 3D medium
The process of creating an osteochondral unit from organoids, which are assembled layer by layer. For this, we showed in detail a combination of different bioprinting technologies - extrusion bioprinting and laser.
Animation in detail
We had to create a detailed 3D model of a rare robot that changes its movements and moves cell plates between stations.
We show the knee with an osteochondral defect. At the end of the video, we show the same knee, and the osteochondral unit closes the defect.
Our task was to make a medically reliable model of a knee with a defect and the process of closing this defect.
Results
The project was funded for the next 4 years.
